About

Hi, my name is Terri and right now this is a one-woman show! My background is Computer Science; I have a BS and an MS degree. I've been developing software for more years than I care to say. I've programmed in BASIC, FORTRAN, Pascal, Ada, C, Perl, C++, JavaScript, Java, and a few more for school classes (like Prolog and Lisp). I was on the Internet in the pre-web days when the big time waster was Newsgroups. It truly was geek-land back then. It's good to see more people interested in and involved with technology (particularly the web) today.

But one thing does concern me, and that is the fact that the number of girls and young women entering Computer Science fields is declining. Because computers, the Internet, and related technology will continue to dominate our lives for years to come, it is important for the female half of the population to be involved in -- and contribute to -- the development and growth of those technologies. In addition to improving schools and teaching methods, one thing women can do is lead the younger generation by example. If women use, explore, and develop Internet technologies, they will show younger girls that technology isn't just for men, that it's not the domain of geeks, and that it is something that girls can pursue without feeling self-conscious or weird.
